The Cook Islands National Reform on Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) and Workers Compensation (WC) is underway to provide more effective legislation in protecting workers and supporting businesses.
Since 2018, ongoing work have resulted in two new acts being currently drafted. The current focus is on the supporting regulations to those two new acts. Regulations are important for the efficient administration of the new laws on WHS and WC. Without clear and specific regulations, the acts cannot be implemented by the authorities.
As part of an extensive consultation process, the appointed Technical Advisor, SHAW IDEA PTY, has now completed the policies for the WHS and WC regulations. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the tripartite social partners, Cook Islands Chamber of Commerce and Cook Islands Workers Association, therefore would like to invite the wider community to consult on these policies and contribute to the ongoing reform. These are available on our website, www.intaff.gov.ck or can be sent directly to emails.
By providing as much input and information possible, our different stakeholders and members of our community facilitate the process of shaping a new set of legislation that will be user friendly, relevant and applicable to all of us. Deadline for all written submissions is on the 26 June 2020.
